BENEFITS OF NESPOLE
Liver, intestine and colon: these are the organs most interested in the benefits that come thanks to the medlars . A fruit that must be harvested not yet fully ripe, stored at room temperature and eaten when it finally has a sweet and not sour taste.
A real source of important health properties, medlars have important beneficial effects on our body. The high presence of fibers helps to lose weight: just drink a glass of water after eating them, so that the ingested fibers swell and give us a satiating effect. But medlars also help prevent cardiovascular disease, protect the colon and moisturize the skin.
There are two main varieties of the medlar tree, both belonging to the Rosaceae family. The common medlar, whose scientific name is Mespilus germanica , is a thorny shrub with conical and ferruginous-colored fruits. It is believed to originate from the East but is poorly cultivated. The medlar of Japan, on the other hand, is Eriobotrya Japonica , has yellow fruits with a smooth and somewhat resistant skin, with juicy and sweet-acid flesh; it originates from China and Japan and was introduced to the Mediterranean in the 19th century. Its fruits ripen from April to June. In Italy, it is grown in the warmer regions. Its fruits, which vary in color (from white to orange) and in flavor (from sweet to sour), have not given rise to distinct species.
PROPERTIES OF THE STRAWBERRIES
Loquats are mainly composed of water , to which are added proteins, fibers, minerals and natural sugars . They act as regulators of the intestine, with astringent properties, if taken not fully mature, instead they have slightly laxative properties if they are fully mature. The presence of pectin , a soluble fiber, then helps to purify the mucous membranes of the digestive system from any toxic substances, protecting from colon cancer. Furthermore, the presence of fibers prevents the absorption of fat by the intestine and therefore helps to reduce blood cholesterol levels. The high presence of potassium instead it acts on the cardiovascular system, helping to regulate blood pressure in the blood and avoiding hypertension, preventing stroke.
The medlar is rich in vitamin A. This high concentration helps protect the skin from aging and acts on the deepest part of the dermis, activating cell renewal mechanisms, capable of rebalancing the skin’s pH. They are therefore effective in case of acne and couperose. Vitamin A also protects against the action of UV rays and helps the formation of melatonin, useful for tanning. Finally, this vitamin helps protect the retina, hindering the formation of free radicals.
RECIPES WITH STRAWBERRIES
Medlars are a non-wasteful fruit: in theory, nothing is thrown away, not even the core. Although the seeds cannot be ingested raw, because they are toxic to the human organism, they should not be wasted, as they allow you to make a tasty loquat liqueur , with a flavor similar to amaretto. To prepare it you need:
- 250 gr of medlar seeds
- Half a liter of water
- Half a liter of alcohol at 90 °
- 500 gr of brown sugar
The seeds must be dried for two days in order to remove the brown skin that covers them. The sugar should be dissolved in boiling water and cooled. The mixture of water and sugar is then placed in an airtight jar, with the seeds roughly broken and alcohol. The liqueur must rest for a month and be shaken once a day. You will then have to filter and let it rest for another month before consuming it.
