Four sets of even stitches are needed for symmetry. Knitted and purled stitches mostly alternate.
2×2 Garter Stitch Rib
Another even pattern, this time in multiples of six. The first row is all knitted and the second alternates knits and purls.
Broken Rib
Symmetry requires 2+1 sets in this even pattern. Again, the first row is entirely knitted. Knits and purls alternate in the second.
Little Granite Stitch
A pattern over four rows. Symmetry is achieved through 4+3 sets. The first row begins and ends with a knitted edge, with a pattern of knits and purls between. For the second and fourth rows, work stitches in the manner they present. The third row goes from the knitted edge to a pattern of purls and knits until the last set of alternate knit ones and purl ones.
Basket Weave Stitch
Worked in multiples of six, the first and seventh rows are entirely knitted, the second and eighth are entirely purled, the third and fifth have knitted edges marking a pattern of knits and purls, whilst the fourth, sixth, tenth and twelfth work stitches in the manner they present. The ninth and tenth change the pattern of knits and purls.
Andalusian Stitch
An Andalusian stitch has a four-row pattern. Use 2+1 sets to achieve symmetry. The first and third rows are entirely knitted, the second row is all purls, and the fourth has an alternating pattern.
