How to protect your hair from the sun
The arrival of summer is a threat to our hair, which, as never before, needs to be protected. The sun, the sea, and the wind represent aggressions that can make them dry, frizzy and opaque. The damage is more serious the more aggressive the hair is exposed to. It is therefore essential to protect the hair from the sun. How to do?
How to protect hair from the sun through the use of oils
Our hair is naturally protected thanks to the production of sebum which, produced daily by the sebaceous glands located in the scalp, is distributed over the entire surface of the hair through combing and repeated contact with the hands.
Sebum contributes to the formation of the hydro-lipid film that lubricates, waterproofs, hydrates and protects the hair shaft from environmental aggressions such as sun, wind, sea, and pollution. However, when the aggression to which our hair is subjected is excessive, the sebum we produce may no longer suffice: our hair will tend, therefore, to dehydrate and crumble.
-Some vegetable oils can come to our rescue and act as “sebum substitutes” and perform the following activities:
-Feed the hair thanks to their ability to penetrate the stem.
-Waterproof your hair thanks to their water repellency.
-Increase the resistance of the hair as it increases the adhesiveness of the scales to the stem.
-Lubricate the stem.
The most commonly used vegetable oils are:
Of Coconut: it contains several fatty acids with moisturizing and nourishing action that make the shiny, full-bodied hair.
Olive oil: contains squalene, a natural substance contained in sebum, particularly suitable for very dry hair.
Of Wheat Germ: rich in fatty acids, antioxidants and proteins combat dryness promotes hair growth and protects the scalp. It has a strengthening action that makes the hairless exposed to atmospheric damage.
oil argan: counteracts dryness and dehydration due to its ability to moisturize your hair in depth and is very nutritious.
It is enough, therefore, to distribute the chosen oil with the hands or with a comb over the whole hair, on dry or damp hair. You can apply the oils:
-Before exposure, to create a protective barrier to external aggression.
-After exposure to the sun as a nourishing mask.
-Vitamins and minerals to protect hair from the sun
The nutrition of the hair also occurs through the use of vitamins that, in addition to being contained in the hair, feed the blood supply to the scalp responsible for the health and growth of the hair.
The important vitamins for healthy hair are especially those of the B complex and vitamin C:
Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, promotes the synthesis of many structural proteins that give resistance to the hair, promotes blood circulation to the scalp and stimulating growth follicles.
Among the vitamins of the B complex, we mention Vitamin B 2, which is very important for hair health. It promotes sebum production and preserves the integrity of the hair.
Furthermore, a supplement of vitamins allows our body to produce new and healthy hair.
Exposure to the sun can cause excessive loss of water and minerals in our hair, which will need to be supplemented. It is important to drink plenty of water and take good supplements. Among the most important minerals for our hair, there are zinc and selenium:
Zinc is an essential mineral, strengthens the hair, makes it grow thick and healthy and strengthens the scalp cells.
Selenium has a high antioxidant and therefore anti-aging power that protects the hair
Vitamin C, vitamin B 2, zinc and selenium contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, so they are an excellent product to protect hair and maintain healthy hair.
